The events that occurred on August 12, 2017 in Charlottesville, VA, fomenting racism, hatred and violence are unacceptable and intolerable. There is no place for racial hatred, bigotry or violent extremism in whatever shape within democratic and civil societies. We, members of the Lexington Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Committee, condemn and denounce unequivocally the actions of these groups and those who explicitly or implicitly support such hateful ideology.

Standing Together Against Racism

The Lexington Clergy Association stood in solidarity with all those in our community who were horrified at the growth of racism, anti-Semitism and bigotry that was recently on display in Charlottesville. They believe that all citizens of our community need to be ready, willing and able to resist voices of hatred in our midst. To the hundreds of Lexington residents attending the vigil, they pledged to maintain vigilance in our community and to continue to raise the consciousness of the secular and faith-based members of our town about these evils that are growing in our midst.
