Lexington's 7th Annual MLK Day of Service
Lexington's 7th Annual MLK Day of Service
Martin Luther King Jr. famously said that “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter.” He also advocated peaceful intervention. Active bystander training raises awareness
about the ways people are targeted for harassment because of their identities and
how we can step in and create change peacefully, without causing further harm.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote of the Week - Nov. 17th "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." On Monday, January 20, 2020 the Town of Lexington will commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with its 7th annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the underserved. It will be a fun and meaningful day, so we hope you will join us.
Our goal this year is to serve 2,500+ people through 700+ volunteers. Isn't it amazing to see what our community can do together? Events begin at 9:00 am with a Community Dialogue on Race at Grace Chapel. This year's topic is "The Necessity of Discussing Race and Racism with Your Own Family at Home." At 11:00 am we will gather by the Minuteman Statue at the Lexington Green and participate in our traditional Unity Walk to Cary Memorial Hall. The Opening Ceremony begins at 11:15 am, where performers including Lexington literary performer Regie O'Hare Gibson and the SNAP Sing Along Chorus, will share the spirit of Dr. King's legacy and kick off the day's service/volunteer opportunities. |
