On Monday, January 21 2019, the Town of Lexington
will commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with its 6th annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the underserved. We expect it to be a fun and meaningful day. Last year, almost 700 volunteers made a difference in the lives of more than 2,500 people. It feels great to know what a community can do together! Events begin at 9:00 am with a Community Dialogue on Race at Grace Chapel (59 Worthen Road, Lexington). This year's topic is Dismantling White Privilege and Institutional Racism in Lexington and Beyond: the 400-year Struggle for Racial Justice. At 11:00 am, join us on our Unity Walk from the Minuteman Statue on the Lexington Green to Cary Memorial Hall (1605 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington). Opening Ceremony begins at 11:15 am, where performers including Lexington literary performer Regie O'Hare Gibson and the SNAP Sing Along Chorus, share the spirit of Dr. King's legacy and kick off the day's service/volunteer opportunities. |
